The Perth Mint’s 2026 bullion design shows a brumby standing on a flat rock face beneath a full moon, surrounded by rocky terrain and shrubs. The reverse also carries the AUSTRALIAN BRUMBY inscription, The Perth Mint’s P mintmark, the 2026 date, weight and fineness.
A new Brumby beneath a full moon
The coin contains 1 troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver, has a face value of A$1 and a maximum mintage of 25,000. The obverse carries Dan Thorne’s effigy of King Charles III.
A small detail designed to deter counterfeiting
As with a number of modern Perth Mint bullion releases, the reverse incorporates a micro-engraved letter within the design. It is intended as an authentication feature and is only visible under magnification.
Australia’s wild horse in silver
The brumby is Australia’s wild horse, descended from domestic horses that were lost, abandoned or released during the colonial period. The animal has since become strongly associated with Australia’s high country and ideas of independence and freedom.
The series has repeatedly paired the Brumby with changing Australian landscapes. The 2022 coin showed a spirited horse beside a shedding eucalyptus; 2023 featured two brumbies cantering together; and the 2024 design placed a galloping brumby beneath forked lightning. The 2026 full-moon scene continues that changing-design approach.
More than one Brumby for 2026
The standard silver bullion coin is joined by a 1oz silver coloured coin with a maximum mintage of just 1,500. The Perth Mint has also produced a 1oz 99.99% gold proof Brumby with a maximum mintage of 150.
