American Eagles have been a major part of the United States Mint’s bullion programme since 1986. The Gold Eagle uses Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famous full-length Liberty on the obverse, while the Silver Eagle carries Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design. Both series received new reverse designs in 2021.
What is different about the 2026 American Eagle?
For 2026, the familiar designs remain, but the coins gain two details unique to the United States’ semiquincentennial year. The date is shown as 1776 ~ 2026, and a Liberty Bell privy mark containing the number 250 identifies the anniversary issue.
That makes 2026 an easy year to distinguish from the normal annual run without replacing the core designs collectors already associate with the American Eagle.
2026 Silver American Eagle
The one-ounce Silver American Eagle remains struck in .999 fine silver. Walking Liberty appears on the obverse, while Emily Damstra’s Type 2 reverse shows a bald eagle descending with an oak branch. The special anniversary date and Liberty Bell 250 privy mark make the 2026 issue a one-year variation within the modern Type 2 era.
2026 Gold American Eagle
The Gold American Eagle continues to use its durable 22-carat alloy. The one-ounce denomination still contains a full troy ounce of fine gold, with the Type 2 reverse featuring Jennie Norris’ close-up portrait of an American bald eagle. The 2026 anniversary treatment adds the same dual dates and Liberty Bell 250 privy mark.
