The 1967 1oz Gold Krugerrand is a South African bullion coin struck in the traditional 22-carat gold-copper alloy and containing one troy ounce of fine gold. It forms part of the Gold Krugerrand family, one of the most influential bullion coin programmes in the world.
The obverse carries Otto Schultz's portrait of Paul Kruger, while the reverse shows Coert Steynberg's springbok antelope, the design pairing that has defined the Krugerrand since 1967. The copper alloy gives the coin its distinctive warm colour and provides added durability for handling and long-term storage.
As the inaugural Krugerrand date, the 1967 issue is the starting point for the modern South African bullion coin programme and carries stronger historic interest than a routine later bullion year.
