The 1998 1oz Silver Britannia Proof Coin is an early proof issue from the formative years of The Royal Mint's silver Britannia programme. Struck in .958 Britannia silver, it followed the inaugural 1997 proof and helped establish the collector format of the series.
The reverse presents Britannia in proof detail, with frosted devices set against mirrored fields. The obverse carries Queen Elizabeth II's portrait used for the period.
Early proof dates such as 1998 are collected for their place in the original Britannia silver era and for their link to the start of the modern silver Britannia range.
