The 2011 1oz Gold American Eagle Bullion Coin is struck by the United States Mint in 22-carat gold and contains one troy ounce of fine gold. It is part of the classic Type 1 period of the American Gold Eagle bullion series, one of the most widely recognised modern gold coin programmes.
The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Liberty design, adapted from the historic Double Eagle coinage, while the reverse carries Miley Busiek's family-of-eagles reverse. This combination of American numismatic heritage and investment-grade bullion specification gives the coin strong international recognition.
The 2011 issue sits within the later Type 1 period, retaining the original family-of-eagles reverse before the redesign that would arrive in 2021.
