Description

The 2017 Gold Sovereign - Bicentenary Proof was struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold to Proof standard. The obverse features queen elizabeth ii fifth definitive portrait by jody clark, while the reverse carries remastered 1817 Garter design of St George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. Issued for the bicentenary of the modern Sovereign, restoring Pistrucci's original garter-surrounded composition. The full Sovereign follows the traditional specification of approximately 7.98 grams, 22.05 millimetres in diameter and around 0.2352 troy ounces of fine gold. Specially prepared dies and planchets create sharply defined relief and reflective fields. The coin was supplied in official Royal Mint presentation packaging and may also have been included in multi-coin Sovereign proof sets. Original capsules, cases, certificates and booklets can vary by release format.
