Description

The 2002 Gold Proof Sovereign was struck by The Royal Mint in 22-carat gold. It features Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and shield of the Royal Arms by Timothy Noad on the reverse. Created for Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, this one-year issue replaces Pistrucci's traditional reverse with Timothy Noad's shield of the Royal Arms. The full Sovereign follows the traditional specification of 7.98 grams, a diameter of 22.05 millimetres and approximately 0.2352 troy ounces of fine gold. Specially prepared dies and planchets create the reflective fields and sharply defined relief associated with Royal Mint proof production. The coin was supplied in official Royal Mint presentation packaging and was also available within multi-coin Sovereign proof sets. Original capsules, cases, booklets and certificates may vary according to the issue format in which the coin was first sold.
