Description

The 1911 Ottawa Mint Gold Sovereign features King George V's bare-head portrait facing left by Bertram Mackennal and Benedetto Pistrucci's St George and the dragon reverse. It is identified by C mintmark below the horse. Ottawa Sovereigns carry the C mintmark and were struck in substantially smaller quantities than most London and Australian issues. This was the first dated Sovereign of George V's reign. Struck as a full Sovereign in 22-carat gold, the coin weighs approximately 7.98 grams, contains about 7.32 grams of fine gold and has a nominal diameter of 22.05 mm. George V Sovereigns retained the established Sovereign specification and were produced at several Royal Mint branches across the British Empire.
