Description

The 1891 London Mint Gold Sovereign features Queen Victoria's Jubilee Head portrait by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm and Benedetto Pistrucci's St George and the dragon reverse. This issue uses the later long-tail reverse introduced for the final Jubilee Head years. Struck as a full Sovereign in 22-carat gold, the coin weighs approximately 7.98 grams, contains about 7.32 grams of fine gold and has a nominal diameter of 22.05 mm. It is identified by no mintmark. The Jubilee Head was introduced in 1887 for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and remained in use on Sovereigns through 1893. Collectors catalogue Jubilee Head Sovereigns by year, mint and recognised reverse type.
