Description

The 1987 1oz Gold Maple Leaf Bullion Coin comes from the first full decade in which the series was established as a .9999 fine gold bullion coin. Struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, it helped cement the Gold Maple Leaf’s reputation for very high purity and dependable international recognition. The reverse features Walter Ott maple leaf reverse, one of the most recognisable national emblems in modern bullion coinage. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II (Arnold Machin effigy), placing the coin within its correct Canadian monarch portrait period and helping distinguish it from neighbouring dates. 1980s four-nines Gold Maple Leafs are valued as early examples of the high-purity era that helped define the series. They appeal to collectors who want the formative years of Canada’s modern gold bullion programme.
