The 1998 1oz Silver Britannia Bullion Coin is an important early issue in The Royal Mint's silver Britannia programme. Struck in .958 Britannia silver, it helped establish the regular bullion format following the proof-only launch of the silver series in 1997.
The reverse uses Philip Nathan's standing Britannia design, with Britannia shown holding a trident and shield as a symbol of Britain's maritime strength and national identity. The obverse carries the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used for the year of issue.
As the first standard bullion date, the 1998 coin is a key starting point for collectors building a complete one-ounce Silver Britannia date run.
